Protecting the wild salmon

The farmed salmon traces its origins to wild salmon populations in Norway. We consider itour duty to preserve the wild salmon, which is the foundation of our industry. In thepicture, we see researcher Marius Kampebastad and a salmon during spawningsurveys in Tafjordelva. He is employed at the NORCE research institute and isfocused on examining the status of wild salmon in the Storfjorden area.

Utilize the whole fish

To have a truly sustainable business model, we utilize the fish waste and turn it into high value marine nutrition products. Hofseth supplied Hofseth BioCare with 13 446 tons of residue from our fish processing operations in 2022. This residue is a valuable resource that is transformed into 4555 tons of high-quality, minimally processed human-grade specialty ingredients.

Reduce all air fright

Cutting airfreight is the most impactful measure to reduce the environmental footprint of our industry. In 2022, we transported only 4.63 percent of our fish by air, and we have committed to bringing this down to 0 percent over the next few years. We freeze our fish when it's absolutely fresh and ship it globally by sea. In 2022 alone,this resulted in a CO2 reduction of 26,000 tons.
